Roznava, May 7 (TASR) - The town of Roznava (Kosice region) commemorated the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War on Wednesday morning with a memorial ceremony, which will be followed by a freedom bonfire lit on a meadow near the town in the evening, the town's PR manager Robert Simko has told TASR. The Day of Victory over Fascism was commemorated in Roznava at 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday with a wreath-laying ceremony. The event took place at the liberation memorial in the park on Hviezdoslavova Street and was attended by town officials, local representatives of the Slovak Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters and military units based in Roznava. To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe a freedom bonfire will be lit on a meadow near the memorial to Pope John Paul II's visit. The town has described the event as both a celebration of tradition and a tribute to the victims of war and the values of freedom. The programme will begin at 7 p.m., with the bonfire scheduled to be lit at 8.30 p.m., accompanied by live music and smaller campfires suitable for barbecues. lin/df
