Bratislava, May 7 (TASR) - On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Slovakia will honour the victims and heroes, including a number of teachers, with the Education Ministry having prepared a series of six inspirational stories to highlight the heroic actions of teachers during the war, TASR has learnt from the ministry's communications department.
"I would like to thank all the brave people who stood up to evil during the Second World War. It's our historical duty to do everything we can to ensure their sacrifice wasn't in vain. Freedom and democracy aren't a given. Therefore, we must protect them and pass them on as a commitment to the past, but also as our responsibility to future generations," said Education Minister Tomas Drucker (Voice-SD).
To mark the occasion, the Education Ministry has prepared six inspirational stories of heroic teachers designed to support teaching about the Second World War and the Slovak National Uprising. The materials published online include recommended resources to deepen understanding of 20th-century history and encourage reflection on the values of democracy, freedom and peace.
