Bratislava, May 7 (TASR) - Slovakia's general government deficit reached €6.9 billion last year to make up 5.27 percent of GDP. The result was better than the one approved in the budget, projecting the deficit at 5.97 percent of GDP, states the Finance Ministry in the draft final state account of the Slovak Republic for 2024 due to be discussed by the Cabinet at its session on Wednesday.

Bratislava, May 7 (TASR) - Slovakia recognises the strategic goal of reducing the European Union's (EU) energy dependence on third countries, but the proposal to completely halt gas, oil and nuclear fuel imports from Russia, presented by the European Commission (EC) on Tuesday (May 6), is unacceptable for Slovakia in its current form, said Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) on Wednesday, adding that such a step would significantly damage the competitiveness of both the EU and Slovakia.
