SHMU: Saturday Could Be First Tropical Day of Year, Especially in West and South

Bratislava, May 2 (TASR) - Slovakia could see its first tropical day of the year on Saturday (May 3), especially in the west and south, however, intense thunderstorms may occur later, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) posted on a social network on Friday, adding that it's expected to cool down next week. "The air will warm up so much that we're likely to record the first tropical day this year, especially in the west and south of Slovakia, that is a temperature of at least 30 degrees Celsius," wrote the SHMU, noting that the influx of very warm air will peak on Saturday. It will be replaced by a cold front, which will advance over Slovakia only on Sunday (May 4) but there may be isolated showers and thunderstorms later in the afternoon and evening on Saturday. Meteorologists expect more precipitation on Sunday night and during Sunday. Thunderstorms may be local and intense. am/mcs
