Liberation80: War Cemetery in Village of Stola Is National Cultural Monument

Stola, May 2 (TASR) - Soldiers and civilian victims of the Second World War are buried in the war cemetery in the village of Stola (Presov region) under the High Tatra mountains.
Village mayor Vladimir Mierka said that they are trying to maintain this memorial as a reminder of the victims of the war, noting that the majority of the people buried there are civilians. It is a national cultural monument.
The cemetery covers a total area of 1,467 square metres. The mayor added that there are a total of 297 physical graves in the cemetery and 38 of them belong to unknown persons. Soldiers are buried in 42 graves, including 22 members of the First Czechoslovak Army Corps and 20 soldiers of the Soviet Army.
