'Slovakia' Party: Right of Veto in EU Is Key, but Must Not Lead to Inflexibility

Bratislava, May 1 (TASR) - The biggest challenge the EU is facing is strengthening its resilience to global crises, the 'Slovakia' party representatives stated, calling for reforms that enable swift responses while preserving member state solidarity, defending the veto right without paralysing decision-making, and prioritising sovereignty and collective defence.
"The member states' right of veto should be preserved, as it guarantees equality between larger and smaller countries. However, we must ensure that the EU is able to make decisions swiftly where necessary, particularly in matters of defence and security," said former MEP Peter Pollak on behalf of the 'Slovakia' party to TASR.
According to the party, Slovakia must be aware that a security guarantee from the United States can no longer be taken for granted. That's why it's vital for the country to be able to rely on trustworthy partners within the EU, provided that Slovakia itself is capable of defending its territory.
