Stakcin, April 29 (TASR) - The Military History Club (KVH) Hodosik, based in Stakcin (Presov region), a region shaped by the events of both world wars, is named after Mount Hodosik, where the highest-altitude First World War cemetery is located, according to the association's vice-chairman, Filip Kalanin.
The club chairman Peter Kalanin stated that the history club has around 120 members, most of whom focus on shooting activities. Approximately 30 to 35 active members are dedicated to researching and documenting events from the First and Second World Wars that took place in north-eastern Slovakia.
"We collect various wartime artefacts, study historical literature, and even publish our own works. Our aim is to shed light on the suffering and horrors of armed conflict and in doing so, help educate society so that such events are never repeated," noted Peter Kalanin.
The club also organises reenactments of wartime events that took place in this region.
Once the restoration of the manor house in the centre of Stakcin is completed, which will serve as a museum of Rusyn culture, the club plans to create a permanent exhibition of military artefacts. "The Rusyns who lived here also took part in military conflicts, so military history rightfully has its place within this museum," added Peter Kalanin.
