Banska Bystrica, April 9 (TASR) - The first-ever governor of Banska Bystrica region Milan Marcok has died at the age of 86, TASR learnt from incumbent Banska Bystrica region governor Ondrej Lunter's social media post on Wednesday.
Marcok held the post in 2001-05 and was elected on behalf of the HZDS-Smer coalition.
"I've been hit by the sad news of Milan Marcok's passing. Shortly after the turn of the millennium, this teacher and academic was involved in the creation of the regional authorities as we know them today. At the time when the foundations of regional politics were being formed, he bore responsibility for implementing them in our region," posted Lunter. "I send my sympathies to his family, loved ones and all those whose paths he crossed as a colleague, teacher, public official or friend," added Lunter.
