Simecka: Fico Insults Protesters Just Because He's Failed Prime Minister

Bratislava, January 31 (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) is insulting legally-competent adults who participate in public protests for no other reason than that his government has absolutely failed to govern, leader of opposition PS party Michal Simecka declared on Friday. Simecka spoke in response to Fico's claims that the Georgian National Legion, allegedly controlled by the Ukrainian counter-intelligence, is behind the protests and attempting to stage a coup-d'etat in Slovakia. "Your accusations that some Georgian-Ukrainian-NGO-opposition-ChatGPT-Soros forces are to blame are ludicrous and offensive. You even claim they attacked the cadastre; according to you, they're even behind bomb threats against schools," declared Simecka, adding that there's a new lie every day and it's become quite undignified. Fico should concede that he has failed and realise that the time for his retirement is now. The Prime Minister's words received a response also from leader of non-parliamentary 'Democrats' and former defence minister (2020-23) Jaroslav Nad. "Mr. Prime Minister, let me correct you: 'Democrats' are direct organizers of a few decent but resolute protests against your government," Nad posted on a social network. Earlier in the day, Fico held a press conference with Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) and secret service director Pavol Gaspar, and claimed that those involved in Slovak public protests include the Georgian National Legion and its leader Mamuk Mamulashvili, allegedly controlled by the Ukrainian counter-intelligence, who, in collusion with Slovakia's political opposition and 'Peace for Ukraine' association are pursuing a coup-d'etat in Slovakia. mf/mcs
