Bratislava, June 12 (TASR) - Trnava region governor Jozef Viskupic is joining the Progressive Slovakia (PS) party, he and PS chairman Michal Simecka announced at a news conference in Trnava on Wednesday. Viskupic supported PS and the party's election leader Ludovit Odor even before the European Parliament (EP) elections. He stressed at that time that PS is the only opposition party with a chance of winning. He called on people not to risk wasting their votes. Viskupic entered politics in 2010 when he, along with Igor Matovic, Erika Jurinova and Martin Fecko, made it into parliament on Freedom and Solidarity's (SaS) slate. The four of them formed the Ordinary People movement, which later gave rise to the OLANO party. The latter has been renamed the 'Slovakia' party. Viskupic was an OLANO founder. He ran for the coalition of OLANO and Friends, the Christian Union and For the People parties in the snap general election in September 2023. He became regional governor for the first time after the elections in 2017. He is currently serving in the post for a second term. He is also chairman of the SK8 Self-governing Regions Association. ko/df
