Police Drop Criminal Investigation into Novaky Mine Incident

Novaky, May 22 (TASR) - The police have dropped a criminal investigation into an incident in which nine miners were injured in a coal mine in the town of Novaky (Trencin region), as it came to the conclusion that no crime was committed, Trencin regional police spokesperson Katarina Kuzmova informed TASR on Wednesday. "The police have halted the criminal investigation concerning a case of an offence of public endangerment under the Penal Code, as the stated act was not a crime," said Kuzmova. The incident took place on April 26, 2023, when nine miners suffered injuries ranging from inhalation of fumes to severe burns, probably caused when methane was ignited. In addition to the police, the incident was also being investigated by the District Mining Office in Banska Bystrica. ko/df
