Security Analyst Zabojnik: Bomb Threats at Schools State's Failure

Bratislava, May 10 (TASR) - This week's security incident involving mass bomb alerts at schools is a failure of the relevant state authorities, security analyst Juraj Zabojnik has told TASR, pointing not only to the lack of security manuals in schools, but also to the very fact of mass email threats. Zabojnik doesn't understand why the state hasn't yet learnt from the tragic incident that took place in Vrutky (Zilina region) four years ago [a fatal knife attack - ed. note], and even the events at Prague's Charles University at the end of last year [a mass shooting - ed. note] haven't prompted it to speed up attempts to keep its declared promises in the area of increasing security and prevention at schools. Security manuals setting out what to do in crises and educational programmes on security threats cannot be replaced by additional measures such as reinforcing police patrols around schools, he said. "These are ad hoc steps that are unsystematic and incompetent, and if it continues like this, I'm afraid we're going to wake up to a really black morning one day," he added. The security analyst also criticised the state when it comes to bomb threats themselves. "We don't know who it was, but the fact that it was a mass threat sent to over a thousand entities shows that it wasn't the work of one or two teenagers who spontaneously thought it up," he pointed out. "It looks like someone got hold of a bundle of data that wasn't sufficiently protected, this really disturbs me," he noted. am/df
