Blanar in Nicosia: Slovakia's Support for UNFICYP to Go On as Long as it Takes

Nicosia/Bratislava, May 9 (TASR) - Slovakia will continue to support the dialogue between Greek and Turkish Cypriots as well as the UNFICYP peacekeeping mission, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar declared at a joint press conference with his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos in Nicosia on Thursday. During their talks at the Cypriot Foreign Affairs Ministry, the two ministers discussed current challenges facing the EU, the security situation around the globe and mutual ties between Slovakia and Cyprus, TASR learnt from its special correspondent. According to Blanar, Slovakia will continue to midwife the bicommunity dialogue for as long as necessary. He pointed out that Slovakia has been active in this field for 35 years. "That's something already rather special," commented Blanar, adding that Slovakia's contribution is appreciated also by the UN. He pointed out to the results that the Slovak soldiers have achieved in more than 20 years of their involvement with the mission. The ministers also praised the excellent ties prevailing between their respective countries and discussed potential cooperation in trade, defence, tourism and innovations. mf
