Prosecutor-General's Office Discards Complaints Over SIS Personnel Changes

Bratislava, April 30 (TASR) - A prosecutor of the non-criminal law department of the Prosecutor-General's Office decided to discard complaints asking for examination of the lawfulness of the Slovak Government's resolution to approve extended statutes of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) and their related personnel changes in SIS, TASR learnt from Prosecutor-General's Office's spokesperson Zuzana Drobova on Tuesday. "The reason for discarding the complaints was the fact that examination of the government's resolution in the given case does not fall under the remit of the prosecution service and no legal conditions for taking prosecutorial action with respect to personnel decisions in SIS have been found," explained the spokesperson. In early March, Pavol Gaspar became the SIS deputy director with powers of the SIS director. The government proposed to nominate him to the helm of SIS back in February. When outgoing President Zuzana Caputova announced that she might leave the decision of appointing the new director to her successor, the government subsequently decided to change the SIS statutes. The opposition asked SIS to declassify the new statutes and also urged the Prosecutor-General's Office to look into the lawfulness of the new changes. mf/mcs
