Blanar: Essential to Return Peace to Vocabulary of Diplomacy

Bratislava, April 24 (TASR) - I consider it to be essential for dialogue, the application of equal standards and peace to return to the vocabulary of diplomacy, stated Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) on the occasion of Wednesday's International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, adding that Slovakia supports multilateralism and diplomacy for peace. "Mutual support, communication and creating and strengthening partnerships have never played such an important role as they do today, at a time of significant geopolitical changes and security threats," said Blanar. The Foreign and European Affairs Ministry pointed out that the government in its manifesto committed itself to supporting international law and human rights protection not only in Slovakia, but also as a priority as part of Slovakia's engagement in international organisations. Therefore, according to Blanar, activities in pursuit of these goals should lead to the most important thing, which is peace. "Our foreign policy actively promotes the use of tools of peace diplomacy, such as negotiations, compliance with international agreements and diplomatic efforts, because without them it won't be possible to find peaceful solutions to disputes and conflicts between states," stressed Blanar, adding that he doesn't consider a military solution to be the way forward and that it is crucial to open negotiations, which are a necessary gateway to peace. am/df
