House Committee Wants Explanations from Nahlik Regarding his Undeclared House

Bratislava, April 23 (TASR) - MP Peter Nahlik (Voice-SD) is supposed to explain to the Conflict of Interest House Committee why he had failed to report his ownership of a house in Bratislava in his 2022 property declaration, committee chair Veronika Remisova ('Slovakia'-For the People-KU) told TASR on Tuesday. The committee will deal with the case at its next session in June, to which Nahlik is invited. "The preliminary information thus far intimate that MP Nahlik has violated the law," said Remisova, who has initiated the hearing. Remisova also criticised then-presidential candidate and now president-elect Peter Pellegrini, who had conceded in a presidential debate that he uses Nahlik's house occasionally because "when parents come to visit, it's better to use that space than be crammed in my 98-, I mean, 88 square metre flat", a flat on the bank of the Danube that he called a "small three-roomer". Pellegrini stated that his friend Nahlik lets him stay occasionally in the house when it's empty and "walk the dog" in its garden. Remisova pointed out that public officials must report the use of real estate property owned by other individuals and firms in their tax declarations so as to "prevent corruption or concealed gifts for potential favours". The committee will demand explanations from Pellegrini in this regard, too. mf/mcs
