Bratislava, April 18 (TASR) - The opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party wants to demonstrate in the upcoming European Parliament elections that Slovakia belongs to the West, while at the same time it wants the election in Slovakia to be won by a pro-European party instead of anti-European and pro-Russian ones, PS leader Michal Simecka and the party's top candidate in the election Ludovit Odor said on Thursday. "My biggest priority will be to explain to the public why Slovakia's place is in the West," said Odor, adding PS wants Slovakia to remain part of the EU and send a signal about the country's pro-European orientation. In the campaign, Odor also wants to focus on future generations. "We need to do more for the quality of life of young people in the EU. Create more pan-European programmes in the field of education, getting to know other countries and attracting domestic and foreign talent," he said. Simecka noted in this vein that he perceives the elections as the last chance to defeat the coalition Smer-SD party this year, lambasting Premier Robert Fico and his government, which, according to him, is pushing Slovakia out of the Union. Simecka at the same time said that he's convinced that PS's slate has what it takes to win the election in the country. As part of its campaign, PS wants to visit individual regions and organise as many as 62 events across the country. Odor claimed that he intends to visit pubs and restaurants even outside regional capitals. zel/mcs
