Blanar: Slovakia Emphatically Rejects EU Migration Pact

Bratislava, April 11 (TASR) - Slovakia unequivocally rejects the new European migration and asylum policy - the so-called EU Migration Pact - and the mandatory resettlement of illegal migrants, head of Slovak diplomacy Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) stated on Thursday. Blanar spoke in response to Wednesday's approval of the legislation by the European Parliament, TASR learnt from the ministry press department on Thursday. According to Blanar, individual EU members should be allowed to decide themselves on what kind of aid they choose, without any need to make mandatory financial contributions. "The passing of this reform is another case in point of how important it is to preserve the right of veto in all spheres crucial to national interests," said Blanar, pointing out that it wasn't possible to apply the right to veto in this vote. Because of this, it was passed in face of disapproval by Slovakia and other states. Blanar underlined that the EU Migration Pact is unsustainable and will fail to resolve the migration problem. It is necessary to realise instead that the protection of the Schengen zone border against illegal migration is insufficient and the border is porous. mf/mcs
