Bratislava, March 16 (TASR) - OMV Slovakia, a subsidiary of Austria's OMV based in Vienna, has announced the takeover of 21 petrol stations in Slovakia from Benzinol with an option to acquire six more. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2024 and is subject to regulatory approval, OMV said during the week. The Anti-monopoly Office (PMU) issued a decision in mid-February granting OMV Slovakia an exemption from the prohibition to exercise the rights and obligations arising from the merger. OMV previously had the second largest network with more than a hundred petrol stations. The inclusion of Benzinol's sites will further strengthen the company's position as market number two. As part of the acquisition, the new petrol stations will be rebranded and then refurbished in the near future. Benzinol operates 27 petrol stations in Slovakia. Most of them are located in western and north-central Slovakia. OMV entered the Slovak market in 1991. OMV Slovakia is headquartered in Bratislava and has a 17-percent market share in Slovakia with 105 petrol stations. am/mcs
