Total of 1,737 Prisoners Have Shown Interest in Voting in Snap Election So Far

Bratislava, September 29 (TASR) - A total of 1,737 prisoners have expressed interest in voting in Saturday's snap general election so far, Prison and Judicial Guard Corps spokeswoman Monika Kacvinska has told TASR. Only prisoners with Slovak citizenship and permanent residence in Slovakia, who will have turned 18 on election day and do not have any obstacle to the right to vote are eligible to take part. "Prisoners can cast their votes in a portable ballot box," added Kacvinska. As of September 28, there were 1,467 charged and 8,518 convicted people (a total of 9,985) in Slovak prisons. They included 26 juvenile charged people, 31 juvenile convicts and 483 foreigners, who don't have a right to vote in Slovakia. The snap general election in Slovakia will be held on Saturday, September 30. Polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Twenty-four political parties and one coalition are running in the election. There are about 4.3 million eligible voters in Slovakia. ko/df
