Fire in Banska Stiavnica Extinguished, Firefighters Monitor Situation

Banska Stiavnica, March 19 (TASR) – The huge fire in the centre of Banska Stiavnica has been extinguished but we'll continue to monitor the situation, spokeswoman for the Regional Directorate of the Firefighter and Rescue Corps (HaZZ) in Banska Bystrica Julia Zelenakova told TASR on Sunday. "The firefighters combated the fire until late at night. Extinguishing hidden fires and monitoring objects was carried out throughout the night. Currently, in addition to constant monitoring, water is being pumped out of buildings and firefighting equipment is being gradually moved to fire stations," said Zelenakova. The area of the historic centre of Banska Stiavnica affected by the fire is closed to the public. In cooperation with the police, the investigation into the causes of the fire continues here. The fire broke out on Saturday morning (March 18) in a historical building in the centre of Banska Stiavnica, one of Slovakia's UNESCO towns. It gradually expanded and damaged seven buildings. Dozens of professional and volunteer firefighters, soldiers and military firefighters helped put out the fire. am
