Bratislava, March 16 (TASR) - President Zuzana Caputova on Thursday promoted Robert Klestinec and Martin Michalka to the rank of major general and also appointed four new generals - Marek Banas, Jaroslav Kram, Jozef Sevcik and Robert Kecso.
In her speech, the head of state emphasised the importance of the Slovak armed forces in view of current events in neighbouring Ukraine, "when a direct threat to the country and its security may not be just a hypothetical danger but could become a reality from day to day," she stressed.
"In this situation, our citizens need to be sure that their security relies on a professional, professionally qualified and well-trained army technically equipped to a high level. As of today, you generals will also take on an even greater responsibility," said Caputova.
According to Caputova, the promotions are proof of the officers' abilities and an appreciation of their efforts so far. "During their service so far, they have had the opportunity to demonstrate their courage, determination and professional skills countless times. But above all, they have demonstrated what is most important for a true professional soldier - dedication to their country and its allies," said Caputova.
