Matovic Wants to Delay Snap Election, Discussion on Constitution Amendment Ended

Bratislava, January 24 (TASR) - The date of an early parliamentary election should be postponed to September so that the law enforcement bodies have time to investigate crimes, OLaNO leader Igor Matovic said in Parliament during the discussion on an amendment to the Constitution. MPs ended the discussion after 7 p.m. The amendment is to be voted on on Wednesday (January 25) at 11 a.m. Matovic pointed to the cases during the Smer-SD governments, talking about crimes and criticising how they managed the state. "When we want them to be investigated, we need to give the law enforcement authorities time to investigate your crimes and your henchmen. Even those three months count," he told the opposition. According to Matovic, a snap election is "to put it very simply" about the mafia longing for it in order to get to power through it. "It's completely natural for the rest of us, who at one time formed a governing coalition, on the basis of which the government still rules, that we'll prevent this and try to delay this deadline as much as possible," he stated. am
