Pezinok, January 23 (TASR) – The Specialised Criminal Court (STS) in Pezinok (Bratislava region) on Monday rejected a proposal of convicted Viliam Misenka to reopen proceedings in the case of an explosion at a company called Euromont in Topolcany (Nitra region) in 2009, TASR learnt on the same day. It is possible to file an appeal against the decision. Misenka is serving a 20-year sentence in an Austrian prison. STS senate president Pamela Zaleska emphasised that permission to renew proceedings can only be granted if new facts or evidence are discovered. "That hasn't been the case here," she said. Slovak courts originally sentenced Misenka to 23 years in prison in his absence. In the summer of 2020, he was detained in Austria. As he has Austrian citizenship, the Austrian authorities began proceedings according to their laws and reduced his sentence by three years. Misenka was sentenced by the Supreme Court in March 2018 regarding an explosion that took place at Euromont in the summer of 2009. One person was killed in the blast, while others suffered serious and minor injuries. Misenka was attempting to kill his sister-in-law, but she survived the blast. am/df
