Bratislava, December 21 (TASR) - Passenger rail service in Zilina train station has been suspended, as a train derailed there on Wednesday morning, passenger railway carrier ZSSK announced on the same day, adding that substitute bus transport has been ensured.
ZSSK specified it was the so-called 'work train' of a foreign carrier. Several trains in Zilina and its neighbourhood are reporting delays due to the accident.
"Passengers must expect long delays that can last up to two hours," ZSSK spokesman Tomas Kovac has told TASR.
Railway infrastructure operator ZSR spokesperson Ria Feik Achbergerova told TASR that the eleventh and twelfth carriages of the cargo train derailed in Zilina train station shortly after 9.30 a.m. Nobody was injured during the accident. "The rail service in the Zilina-Puchov section, as well as in the direction to Cadca (Zilina region) has been limited as a result of the accident. We're currently working to remove the consequences of the derailment," she said.
