BRATISLAVA - Slovakia's GDP in the third quarter of 2022 increased by 1.4 percent year-on-year, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday. The country's economy maintained the tempo of growth observed in the second quarter of 2022, but fell short when compared to the rate in the first three months of the year.
BRATISLAVA - Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) has departed for Albania, where he's set to attend the EU-Western Balkans summit in Tirana on Tuesday. This will be the first-ever summit of this kind to take place in the Western Balkans region. The meeting will address the consequences of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and its negative impacts on energy and food security in the Western Balkans.

BRATISLAVA - The police are dealing with a criminal complaint against ex-economy minister Richard Sulik, news outlet topky.sk reported on Tuesday, adding that the complaint has been filed over suspicions of a breach of obligations in the management of someone else's property and the misuse of powers. The case concerns Valaliky industrial park in eastern Slovakia, a facility meant to be used by Swedish carmaker Volvo to establish its new plant.
BRATISLAVA - The number of doctors in the Slovak health-care system continued to grow in 2021, the National Health Information Centre has reported on its website. While the ranks of doctors in 2020 included 20,026 individuals, the figure increased to 20,047 in 2021.
RIMAVSKA SOBOTA - The Regional Public Health Office (RUVZ) in Rimavska Sobota (Banska Bystrica region) has levied a fine of €5,000 on the opposition Smer-SD party for organising an anti-government protest in October 2021, even though pandemic measures were in place at that time, Tatiana Majanova of the office has confirmed for TASR, adding that the verdict isn't yet final.
BRATISLAVA - Actress Maria Kralovicova died at the age of 95 late on Monday (December 5) evening, Slovak National Theatre (SND) press secretary Izabela Pazitkova has confirmed for TASR. The legendary actress appeared at the Slovak National Theatre for a record 74 years. She became a member of the SND Drama Stage on January 1, 1948, and left it only this January.
TIRANA - Slovakia supports the EU integration of the Western Balkans and will provide this region with assistance in terms of the necessary reforms, stated Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) before the start of the EU-Western Balkans summit in Tirana, Albania on Tuesday.
