Von der Leyen on Shooting in Bratislava: These Murders Pose Threat for Society

Brussels/Bratislava, October 13 (TASR) – The heinous murders that took place in Bratislava on Wednesday (October 12) pose a threat to a society that is based on respect and tolerance, European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen said in response to the shooting in the Slovak capital, TASR learnt on Thursday. "My thoughts are with the families of the victims of the shooting in Bratislava," said von der Leyen in a tweet. According to her, the EU is determined to help in the fight against hate crimes and expressions in all their forms. "We have to protect the LGBTIQ community," added the EC head. The shooting occurred not far from Bratislava Castle after 7 p.m. The suspect shot dead two men and left one woman injured before fleeing the scene. The police have since found him dead. am/mcs
