Mikulec: Illegal Migration Situation Under Control

30. septembra 2022 19:58
Bratislava, September 30 (TASR) - The situation with illegal migration is currently under control, Interior Minister Roman Mikulec declared on Friday. In cooperation with regions, migration camps have been built in border areas, with district authorities also convening their crisis team sessions to address the situation. In addition, patrol teams in the border areas have been reinforced, TASR was told by ministry spokesperson Zuzana Eliasova. Only in the Trnava region alone, 52 patrols have been despatched or more than 100 officers of the Regional Police Corps Directorate along with the Border and Foreign Police officers and members of the National Unit for Fight Against Illegal Migration. "Slovakia has been reinforcing its police patrols for a long time, currently we're boosting the number of Police Corps members on Hungarian soil. The purpose is to protect the Schengen border and cut down the number of illegal migrants," said Police Corps President Stefan Hamran. Austria and the Czech Republic have recently reintroduced temporary border checks at crossings with Slovakia over the upsurge in illegal migration. Mikulec claimed that the border checks within the Schengen zone won't resolve the migration, only divert it to new transit routes. He underlined that the solution must be adopted at the EU level and must incorporate the protection of the external borders. mf/mcs
