Fico: EU Vote on Energy Measures Demonstrates Power of Big States

Bratislava, September 30 (TASR) - The energy measures adopted by the EU demonstrated the power wielded by large states and also what they do to servile politicians and small states like Slovakia, Smer-SD chair Robert Fico declared at a press conference on Friday. According to Fico, Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) lost in Brussels because the EU leaders don't respect him and he has failed to negotiate anything of substance. Fico pointed out that the majority of the EU approved a measure that will limit most energy producers to sell their electricity at the capped price of €180 per MWh and anything above that sum is to be used to support industry and the people. "This measure, as it was passed, will benefit mostly big countries such as Germany. The Slovak Republic will have nothing," he said. "You've lost even your own pants in Brussels because they don't respect you because you're servile," Fico sent a message to Heger. Fico urged Heger to link any Government-sponsored bill in Parliament with a no-confidence motion in the Cabinet, as that would reflect on the situation Slovakia has found itself in. Fico also suggested to Heger that if the Prime Minister wished to save face, he should tell his counterparts in the EU that Slovakia will use its veto in every vote possible from now on, in the fundamental foreign affairs issues. If the right to veto is scrapped, it would spell the beginning of the end of the EU. mf/mcs
