Bratislava, August 6 (TASR) - A water sports centre, which would serve not only professional athletes but also the public, is being planned near the Danube River on the outskirts of Bratislava, the Education, Science, Research and Sport Ministry and general manager of Slovak Canoeing Boris Bergendi have told TASR. The project is expected to cost €30 million, excluding VAT. A racing course for rowers and canoeists has been created on an area near the Jarovecke rameno arm of the Danube. According to Bergendi, it's of a very good level, but there's a lack of both facilities and an access road. In the first stage, therefore, the aim is to build infrastructure, a finishing-line structure with a tower and a light-construction building for sports teams. The first stage could cost €8-10 million. "We could receive an amount of approximately €5 million from the Education Ministry. According to our plans, the investor could be state-run water management construction company Vodohospodarska Vystavba, which would contribute funds and the work. For example, it would be able to build the infrastructure from its own budget," said Bergendi. am/df
