Judicial Council Chair: Smer's Referendum Questions Probably Doomed to Fail

Bratislava, June 10 (TASR) - Reacting to the two referendum questions aimed at triggering a snap general election that were presented by Smer-SD head Robert Fico on Friday, Judicial Council head Jan Mazak has opined that the questions probably don't have any hope of success.
"The president could easily decide that she won't announce such a referendum," said Mazak.
In his opinion, it isn't very feasible to formulate a referendum question concerning shortening the parliamentary electoral term.
Fico on Friday launched a petition in support of holding a referendum that would lead to a snap general election, presenting two questions that would be asked in the plebiscite. The first question concerns the immediate resignation of the Government, while the second one concerns amending the Constitution.
Previously, the Constitutional Court ruled that referendum questions concerning shortening the parliamentary electoral term were not in line with the Constitution. The opposition has been trying to amend the Constitution in this regard ever since, but to no avail so far.
