President Caputova: Decency Might Be Quieter and Milder, But Not a Weakness

Bratislava, May 2 (TASR) - Decency might be quieter and milder, yet not weaker than brutish behaviour, President Zuzana Caputova posted on a social network on Monday. Caputova responded this way to vulgar insults that had been heaped at her during First of May celebration, organised by the Smer-SD party. "I'm thankful for all the support you've been sending me since yesterday. It's important not only to me but also the future of Slovakia that you don't stay indifferent. Decency might be quieter and milder, yet certainly not weaker," posted the President. "The choice of political language and tools of political struggle are their personal business and will be reflected in the reputation they carry. As the President, I detest such forms of the political competition and reject it. But as a politician I must endure this and only hope, as a woman and mother, that these gentlemen can treat women in their circles with more respect," Caputova stated about MPs Robert Fico and Lubos Blaha. Caputova perceives the attacks mounted against her by Smer-SD as the manifestation of their effort to put their own candidate into the Presidential Office, as the head of state is invested with the power to grant amnesty to the convicted. She is also glad that the Smer-SD members understand that she won't get in the way of justice being served. The First of May celebrations organised by Smer-SD in Nitra on Sunday (May 1) gradually escalated into a protest against the Government, the President and the prosecution of Fico in custody. During his speech, MP Lubos Blaha told the crowd: "The state power has banned me from saying it out loud. I can't speak the truth about President Caputova. Please, say it on my behalf! She's an American..." When the crowd began to chant "American wh.re", Blaha repeated the question of who's Zuzana Caputova and received the same reply. In the past, Blaha had repeatedly stated that the Slovak President is a lackey controlled by the United States and committing treason, until the Bratislava District Court I ordered him to delete the offending Facebook posts. mf
