Architect Matusik, Designer of Prior Department Store and Kiev Hotel, Dies At 91

Bratislava, February 21 (TASR) - Architect Ivan Matusik, the most important representative of late modern art, has died at the age of 91, the Slovak Architects Association reported on its website on Monday, adding that Matusik designed the Prior department store, Kiev Hotel and the New Market Hall in Bratislava. Matusik was also the designer of the Lafranconi swimming pool and Slimak (Snail) department store in Bratislava, a shopping centre in Martin (Zilina region) and Banik rehabilitation facility in Bojnice (Trencin region). The late architect was a laureate of the Emil Bellus Award, twice laureate of the Dusan Jurkovic Award, and a holder of the CEZAAR Award, the Crystal Wing and the Order of Ludovit Stur, Second Class. am/df
