Kosice, September 24 (TASR) - A new laboratory called AI4Steel Lab that will serve the needs of academics and metallurgists from U.S. Steel Kosice has been opened on Friday at Kosice Technical University (TUKE), TASR learnt on Friday. The joint teams will use artificial intelligence tools to address current industry challenges in order to increase the quality and protection of the environment while maintaining the economic efficiency and competitiveness of production. "Cooperation is key to the success of innovation. We're pleased that the premises of our Technicom University Science Park will be used to search for and verify new smart solutions. Until now, we've cooperated with U.S. Steel mainly through the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling, and now we're moving closer to modern technologies thanks to colleagues from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics," said TUKE Rector Stanislav Kmet. "Digitization brings significant changes in production management. Although it has been used in U.S. Steel Kosice since the early 1990s, today the main challenge is advanced analytics, that is data evaluation for production optimisation. Thanks to analytics and extensive data on each tonne of steel produced, we can increase the quality and efficiency of production, reduce emissions and improve sustainability," said U.S. Steel Kosice president James Bruno, adding that U.S. Steel wants to be the best steel plant in Europe and a leader in the use of smart technologies for industry. He noted that artificial intelligence tools and correctly interpreted data bring savings in millions of euros. am/mcs
