Slovak Experts Develop Breath Analyser for Detecting COVID-19 within a Minute

Bratislava, June 30 (TASR) - Slovak experts have developed a spectrometer named FastBreathSpec that detects COVID-19 from one's breath within less than a minute, TASR was told on Monday by Silvia Takacova from a company that took part in the project along with two Slovak universities. "The device is based on ionic movement spectrometry. It's able to analyse breath within less than 60 seconds. The samples are then classified with the help of machine learning algorithms," said Takacova. The breath analyser was developed by a Bratislava-based company called Masatech in cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of the Comenius University in Bratislava and Faculty of Informatics and Information Technology of the Slovak University of Technology. The project was also co-funded by the national government. bub/mcs
