BRATISLAVA - Interior Minister Roman Mikulec (OLaNO) claimed that statements floated by opposition's Smer-SD chair Robert Fico about him are lies, TASR learnt from Mikulec's social network post on Thursday. BRATISLAVA - It's in the interest of the state as well as all parties involved to shed light into what's happening between law enforcement and the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS), otherwise the opportunity to restore public trust in the rule of law will be lost for a long time, Parliamentary Vice-chair Gabor Grendel (OLaNO) stated on Thursday. BRATISLAVA - Interior Minister Roman Mikulec (OLaNO) trusts that the Thursday's crackdown by the Internal Affairs Office against National Criminal Agency (NAKA) was cleared by a prosecutor, TASR was told by Interior Ministry press department director Barbara Turosova on Thursday. BRATISLAVA - Police and prosecutor's office have had their hands untied and that holds true for all of their services, Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) declared on Thursday. BRATISLAVA - Prosecutor-General Maros Zilinka tasked a Bratislava regional prosecutor to examine thoroughly the legality of the Interior Ministry's Internal Affairs Office crackdown against the National Criminal Agency (NAKA) and whether it was justified, TASR learnt from the Prosecutor-General's Office spokesperson Dalibor Skladan on Thursday. PARIS/BRATISLAVA - Slovakia's Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korcok had discussions on Thursday in Paris with the new general secretary of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann, during which he emphasised that digital and green transformations, and their influence on the post-pandemic recovery, are among Slovak priorities in this organisation, as TASR has learnt from the Slovak Foreign Ministry press department. BRATISLAVA - The Special Prosecutor's Office (USP) voiced its concerns over Thursday's crackdown of the Interior Ministry's Internal Affairs Office at the premises of the National Criminal Agency (NAKA), which it perceives as unorthodox at a minimum and raising strong suspicions of a purpose-built approach, TASR learnt from Special Prosecutor Daniel Lipsic on the same day. BRATISLAVA - Lawyer Martin R. [name abbreviated due to legal reasons], who had been released from the custody by the Constitutional Court a few weeks ago, was detained by the police again on Thursday, Martin R.'s lawyer Matej Marhavy confirmed to TASR on the same day. BRATISLAVA - Positive industrial output figures in April 2021 can be ascribed to a basis effect, as the industrial output in Slovakia fell by over 40 percent last April as a result of the first pandemic wave, said 365 Bank analyst Jana Glasova in her commentary on the industrial output figures released by the Statistics Office earlier on Thursday. mf
