U.S. Steel Kosice Continues with Reduced Working Time in February

24. januára 2020 20:17
Kosice, January 24 (TASR) - The reduced working time will continue at U.S. Steel Kosice steelworks also in February but to a lower degree compared to previous months, as requested by trade unions, TASR learnt on Friday. "Working time will be reduced by at least one shift and by a maximum of two. This has been agreed for February and will be re-assessed later," company spokesman Jan Baca confirmed on Friday. Employees will receive 60 percent of their pay on days on which they stay at home. The reason for the shortened working week is the persisting unfavourable situation on the steel market. U.S. Steel employees worked only four days per week already in May last year, while the plant shut down one of its blast furnaces in June. Subsequently, the company announced it will slim down its labour force in the steelworks and its subsidiaries by 2,500 by the end of 2021. U.S. Steel Kosice has currently around 9,000 employees, together with its subsidiaries it is a total of about 10,500. am
