Bratislava, October 3 (TASR) - The Primate's Palace in Bratislava hosted the ceremony of the 8th year of the Slovak Press Photo awards on Thursday, with Jozef Jakubco of SME daily winning the competition with a set of photographs dubbed Night with the President. In the 'sports' category, victory went to Juraj Sedlak for his photo series called 5 Days. Andras A. Csefalvay (parameter.sk) won the 'reportage' category with a set dubbed Vivien, whereas Ondrej Cechvala's photograph Mountain People dominated the 'daily life' section. Michal Babincak's photograph Vogue was recognised as the best in the 'world of art and culture' category. The panel of judges awarded the first place in the 'environment and nature' category to Tomas Benedikovic over his Mariupol, a photograph taken during the Russian blockade of the Sea of Azov. Photographer of the Press Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR) Michal Svitok once again won the 'single' category, with a photo of now retired biathlete Nasta Kuzminova called 'the Last One?' this year. "I'm delighted by the award. It's also a satisfaction for me to capture Nasta's final race, her final minutes on track and the subsequent emotional celebration or even her farewell to her career," said Svitok about the photo taken at the World Cup in Norwegian Holmenkollen. "It's a great satisfaction also because of Nasta and how great a human being and athlete she is." The photographs can be seen at Slovak Press Photo 2019 expo, held in the Bratislava Kunsthalle between October 4-28. mf/mcs/am
