Bratislava, September 11 (TASR) - The fight against the climate crisis should be a priority of the whole country and of all humanity, Slovak President Zuzana Caputova stated on Wednesday following a meeting with representatives of environmental non-profit organisations and initiatives, adding that she is therefore grateful for any activities directed towards this common interest. One of the organisations the president received was the Fridays for the Future movement, which is organising a climate strike in Bratislava on Friday, September 20 "We may be the first generation to experience the effects of climate change, and we may be the last generation to have a chance to reverse this trend. There are big challenges ahead but the sooner we start dealing with them, the better the chance of a positive change," stated the president, referring to Slovakia's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050. She also called for sensitivity to social and economic consequences of these changes. The president also highlighted environmental initiatives, which, in her words, are a symbol of co-operation. "We need to work together in every big goal," she noted. The director of the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) Slovakia Miroslava Plassman also agrees with this and added she praises that the president invited not only professional organisations but also initiatives. According to her, the climate crisis is no longer just a technical issue, but concerns the future of the next generations, which are rightly concerned. In addition to Plassman, Caputova also received in the Presidential Palace Otto Hudec from the Let's Not Waste Time initiative, Radek Kubala from Greenpeace Slovakia, Juraj Melichar from Friends of the Earth Slovakia, Lucia Szabova from the Concerned Mothers initiative, and Emma Zajackova from Fridays for the Future. am/mcs
