Lajcak: I Don't Know what Could Persuade Me to Run for President

Bratislava, January 5 (TASR) - Foreign and European Minister Miroslav Lajcak (a Smer-SD nominee) has told TASR in an interview that he doesn't know what could persuade him to run for president. Lajcak was responding to a question pertaining to a deal of speculation in Slovakia in recent months that he could be Smer's presidential candidate and perhaps even a favourite of the election due this spring. "I feel the public trust, but I continue having a strong feeling that this is how the people appreciate my work in foreign policy," said Lajcak. When asked about his planned whereabouts in politics after the 2020 general election, he said that he isn't pondering about it and so he isn't able to tell whether he'd accept the post of foreign minister again, either. "Neither I'm ruling this out, nor I'm counting on this and fixing myself on this," said Lajcak, adding that he wouldn't rule out a return to European or global organisations, however. "If times come - and they'll come - when Slovakia will not have interest in my services any more, I believe that interest in my services abroad will continue," added Lajcak, until September president of the UN General Assembly. bub
