Eset Takes Objection to Having its Name Dragged into Politics

Bratislava, November 14 (TASR) - Eset IT security company is emphatically taking objection to having its name dragged into political competition and tarnished via "disinformation and conspiracy theories in Slovak politics", TASR learnt on Wednesday. Eset responded this way to the statement by Parliamentary Chair Andrej Danko (Slovak National Party/SNS), according to whom it's dangerous to allow Eset to finance political candidates, as the IT firm also possesses information about consumer habits. "Eset regards data security as one of its key responsibilities and absolutely rejects any notion of their use in the political arena. Furthermore, it doesn't possess data that could be taken advantage of for political purposes," the firm wrote in its statement, adding that its corporate accounting is subject to auditing. "Hence, any suspicions or allegations of bankrolling political activities and projects can be easily and quickly dispelled." Eset conceded that aside from public service activities, its owners also occasionally support candidates running for public office. "In all such cases, however, it was an open and transparent support and the same holds true for their joint investment into Dennik N (daily)," claimed the company, adding that the contract on investment doesn't grant power to any of the investors to interfere with the daily newspaper's content. Speaking on Sunday's (November 11) episode of TA3's political talk show 'V politike' (In Politics), Danko stated that politics is no longer about the competition of political parties in regions but also their financing. "They create a digital hero, digital mayor, he gets bankrolled by strong people and here are the results," Danko said about the financial support Miroslav Trnka of Eset provided to Matus Vallo, who won the Bratislava mayoral race. mf/mcs
