Bratislava, September 11 (TASR) - A three-member senate of the Regional Court of Appeal in Bratislava on Tuesday handed down long prison sentences to three people - Peter Holan, Dusan Surina and Sergej Minajlenko - for plotting the murder of Bratislava underworld boss Peter Congrady in 2004, TASR learnt on Tuesday.
The court of appeal confirmed the verdicts of Bratislava I District Court from February of this year. The public session took place under strict security measures and lasted for about five hours.
Bratislava I District Court in February of this year sentenced Sergej Minajlenko to an extraordinary punishment of 23 years imprisonment. Peter Holan was sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison, while Dusan Surina got five years.
Congrady was shot 24 times in broad daylight in front of a pizzeria in Bratislava in 2004. He was considered to be one of four potential successors, influential people in the Sykorovci gang, following the murder of the gang's founder, Miroslav Sykora. Congrady's death was also unsuccessfully plotted in 1999.
