Bratislava, 4 November (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) has decided to throw his coalition partners overboard and has launched a campaign aimed at swallowing up both Voice-SD and the Slovak National Party (SNS), said leader of the Christian Democrats (KDH) Milan Majersky in response to Fico's statement on Wednesday.
Majersky criticised the coalition parties for arguing among themselves and focusing on their own problems instead of those of the public. According to him, Fico has also given up on the final year of his government's term.
"He said that he sees no major legislative challenges and that nothing will happen if bills fail to pass. He wants to see out his term, but he doesn't know what for. That's outrageous. People elected him for four years of work, not three years of work and a year of campaigning," said Majersky, adding that Fico no longer sees any challenges ahead.
"We're not going to celebrate the break-up of the coalition. We'll put forward proposals that will help people. Abolishing the Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation Ministry is the first step," he said, adding that the ministry has become an obstacle to regional development.
According to Fico's statement on Wednesday, it's the duty of the government and Parliament to do everything possible to complete the current electoral term, while greater attention will need to be paid to individual MPs when discussing which bills will or will not be passed. He said that Smer-SD's parliamentary caucus is stable, whereas its coalition partners SNS and Voice-SD are responsible for the current situation concerning the parliamentary majority, as they've failed in the process of drawing up their slates and their caucuses have fallen apart.
