Bratislava, 24 October (TASR) - The police have recorded over 100 complaints in connection with the local and regional elections, Police Corps Vice-president Rastislav Polakovic told a news conference on Saturday.
"As regards criminal offenses, the complaints have concerned electoral corruption, obstruction of elections, as well as the crime of defamation. As for misdemeanours, there are various cases as well," he said.
Polakovic also called on people not to wait until the last minute to vote in order to prevent potential issues.
"We need to urge everyone who intends to vote today not to leave it until the last minute. We've noticed in previous elections that many people have waited until the end. To avoid any problems, I'm asking everyone to spread it out, if possible, as we have the whole day. People should bear in mind that these elections are being held simultaneously, so casting ballots may take longer," said Polakovic.
State Electoral Commission chairman Eduard Burda confirmed that the commission has also received many complaints recently, although the vast majority of them are unfounded.
"Most of these reports are submitted by one candidate against another, so it seems that candidates are trying to settle personal scores in this way," he stated.
