Dubove, 21 October (TASR) - At its away-from-home meeting in the village of Dubove in Zilina region on Wednesday, the government is set to allocate over €2 million to the areas of Turiec and Orava, Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) announced at the start of the session.
The prime minister also stated that, as part of an analysis of the social-economic situation and selected issues in the districts of Martin, Turcianske Teplice and Dolny Kubin, the cabinet has prepared a resolution setting out 36 tasks for individual ministries. These relate primarily to transport infrastructure, culture and the development of sport and tourism.
Mayor of Dubove Milan Lettrich mentioned that the Upper Turiec region has been designated as a priority district, stating that, in his view, Turcianske Teplice district is lagging behind in selected national indicators. "The ageing population of the district is certainly a problem; there is very little industry here, and we'd like to develop tourism on a larger scale," said the mayor.
Martin mayor Jan Danko identified the lack of progress in tourism as the main problem. "Martin and the Turiec area have what it takes to be attractive and lucrative. Tourists and the tourism industry also need infrastructure, and that's been lacking here until now," he added.
