Badin, 6 October (TASR) - The Slovak Bishops Conference (KBS) will be headed by Bratislava Archbishop Metropolitan Monsignor Stanislav Zvolensky for the next four years, with Slovak bishops deciding this in a secret ballot held at their 115th plenary session in Badin (Banska Bystrica region) on Tuesday. Zvolensky will replace Kosice Archbishop Metropolitan Monsignor Bernard Bober, whose four-year term in office has expired, KBS spokesperson Katarina Jancisinova has told TASR. The new chairman will represent KBS externally and coordinate its activities. "Nitra Bishop Monsignor Viliam Judak will remain as KBS vice-chairman. In addition to the chairman, vice-chairman and General Secretary Ivan Ruzicka, the KBS Permanent Council will be made up of Spis Auxiliary Bishop Monsignor Jan Kubos and Ordinary of the Slovak Armed Forces Pavol Sajgalik," said Jancisinova. Pope Benedict XVI appointed Zvolensky as Archbishop Metropolitan of Bratislava in February 2008. He took up office as Archbishop Metropolitan on 8 March 2008. He's already served as the KBS chairman once: between 28 October 2009 and 11 October 2022. The election of the KBS chairman is governed by the Code of Canon Law and the KBS Statutes currently in force. The chairman and vice-chairman are elected by the KBS plenary assembly from among diocesan archbishops or bishops. Their term in office lasts four years. ko/df
