Bratislava, 3 October (TASR) - Passengers travelling from M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava will be able to fly to Mombasa in Kenya for the first time during the upcoming winter season, with charter flights to the destination being served once a week from February until Easter 2027, Juraj Sliacky, manager of travel agency Cedok in Slovakia, told a news conference earlier this week.
As of October 2026, flights will also be available to the island of Zanzibar and to Hurghada in Egypt, with Marsa Alam in Egypt added as of next January.
"For the first time in history, passengers will be able to fly directly from Bratislava to Kenya. The range of flights from Bratislava airport to exotic destinations will be diverse this winter," said airport director Dusan Novota. "The new routes give passengers a wider choice of attractive destinations while also confirming the growing importance of our airport for holiday travel from Slovakia," he said. The airport chief expects strong winter offers and upcoming new routes to contribute to further growth in charter transport.
According to Sliacky, Mombasa offers a combination of options for both leisure stays and sightseeing. "We believe that Kenya will offer a somewhat different perspective on the region, new experiences and safaris. And flights to Kenya have never operated from Bratislava airport before," he said. The four aforementioned destinations will be added gradually during the winter season. "We'll start flying to Hurghada and Zanzibar in late October, followed by Marsa Alam in January and Kenya in February," added Sliacky.
According to Novota, Bratislava airport has seen a significant increase in flights this year, mainly thanks to low-cost airline Wizz Air, which has had a base at the airport for almost a year now. "Wizz Air also has a programme for travel agencies, which can leverage its network. Bratislava airport was primarily used by clients of travel agencies in the past, so we are pleased that we can offer them these destinations, as not everyone is able or inclined to travel independently," noted Novota. According to him, demand among travellers from Bratislava using travel agencies is high and continues to grow.
