President Pellegrini Promotes and Appoints 11 Slovak Generals

Bratislava, 29 September (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini promoted five brigadier generals to the rank of major general and also raised six colonels to the military rank of brigadier general at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday. The brigadier generals promoted to major generals are Norbert Hrib, Stefan Acsai, Adolf Daubner, Ladislav Kisel and Jozef Sevcik, while the colonels raised to the rank of brigadier general are Jan Berec, Peter Vyrostek, Miroslav Kovacik, Gabriel Janovics, Rudolf Janci and Jan Hric. "Your appointment or promotion to higher ranks is also a significant moment for the Slovak Armed Forces. You've carried out a great deal of meritorious work, for which you deserve recognition and our gratitude, you have diligently performed your duties and demonstrated devotion to your homeland. In doing so, you've confirmed your professional, expert and moral qualities, and you've honourably represented the Slovak Armed Forces abroad," stated Pellegrini. The newly appointed generals now have an opportunity to develop their abilities further, he said, adding that they are united by a common goal, namely defending Slovakia, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and protecting its population from military and non-military threats. "Cooperation between the military and the public is of strategic importance for our defence capability. This is particularly true today, when Europe is facing new types of threats, be they hybrid attacks, attacks on state infrastructure, sabotage or violations of airspace. These are threats that can have a direct impact on the citizens of our country, which is why communication and cooperation with them are important," said the president, expressing the belief that their qualities, professionalism and high moral standards will help Slovakia to navigate this challenging period. jrg/df
