SEVA: 33,379 Battery Electric Vehicles on Slovak Roads at End of June

Bratislava, 26 September (TASR) - There were 33,379 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) of all categories on Slovak roads at the end of June, up 65 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), while public charging infrastructure has also expanded significantly, with drivers now being able to access 3,707 charging points at 1,375 locations for a total installed capacity of 343 megawatts (MW), according to information provided by the Slovak Electric Vehicle Association (SEVA). New high-power charging locations, including the first motorway charging hubs along TEN-T corridors, which are being built with support from the Recovery Plan, account for a significant part of the technological progress. "In a year-on-year comparison, Slovakia has a substantially larger fleet of electric vehicles, a more powerful network, and nearly a thousand public charging points with an output of at least 150 kilowatts (kW)," said SEVA director Patrik Krizansky. The public charging network has not grown only in terms of the number of charging points on the map, but also underwent a significant technological upgrade. While its total installed capacity was just under 162 MW at the end of June 2025, a year later it had risen to more than 343 MW. Of the total 3,707 public charging points, 1,989 are for standard AC charging, 749 for fast DC charging with an output of up to 150 kW, 616 for high-power charging of up to 350 kW, and another 353 for ultra-fast charging with an output of more than 350 kW. Slovakia now has 969 public charging points with an output of 150 kW or more, which is nearly double last year's number. The significant progress was driven by the first large charging hubs along TEN-T motorway corridors, which are being built with support from Slovakia's Recovery and Resilience Plan that envisages the construction of 35 charging parks with a total of 251 high-power charging points, some of which may also be used by electric lorries. As of 30 June, there were approximately 8.4 passenger BEVs per public charging point. Despite a significant increase in the number of vehicles, Slovakia's public network remains sufficient in proportion to the size of the electric fleet. Moreover, infrastructure capacity grew substantially faster than the number of vehicles, which is why SEVA doesn't consider a lack of public charging points to be the main barrier to the uptake of electromobility. The vehicle market has accelerated significantly as well, with 6,721 passenger battery electric vehicles registered in Slovakia during the first six months of 2026, up 48 percent y-o-y.
