CRIF Analysis: 25 Firms Filed for Bankruptcy in August, Owing €2.8 mn to State

Bratislava, 12 September (TASR) - A total of 25 firms filed for bankruptcy in August, owing €2.8 million in taxes and levies to the state, according to an analysis by credit-reporting company Slovak Credit Bureau (CRIF). The analysis further showed that 23 limited-liability companies, one joint-stock company and one self-employed went bankrupt in August. "Compared with previous summer months, we posted a lower number of bankruptcies, with a month-on-month (m-o-m) decline exceeding 30 percent and a year-on-year (y-o-y) drop reaching almost 11 percent. However, we can't conclude from this that the economic situation is improving, as we are experiencing very turbulent times," said CRIF chief analyst Jana Markova. The highest number of bankruptcies was recorded in the wholesale and retail sector, with eight cases each. This was followed by administrative and support service activities, with five bankruptcies, while industrial manufacturing and professional, scientific and technical activities reported three bankruptcies each. The biggest debtor to the state in August was Komarno-based company Ideacargo RV, owing more than €1.4 million to Financial Administration. The second-highest amount (almost €670,000) owed to the state was by lighting manufacturer OMS, based in Dojc (Trnava region). It owes a additional €6 million to other creditors. Restructuring was permitted for two companies in August, including steel-bearing manufacturer OMNIA KLF based in Kysucke Nove Mesto (Zilina region).
